482 Visa (TSS VISA)

Short-term stream

The Short-term stream of the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482) allows Australian employers to address immediate and critical labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers from overseas. This stream facilitates the filling of positions that cannot readily be filled by the local workforce, helping to maintain industry productivity and service delivery in key sectors of the economy.

482 Visa (TSS VISA)

Medium-term stream

Under the Medium-term stream of the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482), skilled workers can reside and work in Australia for up to four years, with an extension up to five years for Hong Kong passport holders. This visa also permits holders to undertake study in Australia, though without access to government financial support. This stream is tailored to meet the country's longer-term skill needs in specialized occupations.

482 Visa (TSS VISA)

Labour Agreement stream

The Labour Agreement stream of the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482) enables skilled workers to live and work in Australia temporarily, under conditions negotiated through a Labour Agreement. These agreements are made between the Australian Government and employers, allowing for the sponsorship of foreign workers when standard temporary and permanent migration arrangements are not applicable.

482 Visa (TSS VISA)

Subsequent entrant

The Subsequent Entrant stream of the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482) provides an avenue for family members of current subclass 457 and TSS visa holders to join their relatives in Australia. This visa allows for family reunification, enabling dependents to apply separately and live together in Australia during the tenure of the primary visa holder’s stay.

Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa Subclass 482 Application Process

Step 1: Sponsorship Application

The first step in obtaining a Temporary Skill Shortage Visa TSS 482 visa is a sponsorship application submitted by the employer. The employer must be a lawful, actively operating business that complies with local labour laws and employment standards. This step ensures that only legitimate businesses in good standing can bring in overseas workers, supporting ethical employment practices.

Step 2: Nomination Application

Following the sponsorship approval, the second step involves a nomination application. This part of the process details the specific position to be filled, includes salary information, documents efforts made to recruit Australian workers, and assesses the ‘genuineness’ of the position to be filled. The nominating business must demonstrate viability and a genuine need to sponsor an employee from overseas.

Step 3: Visa Application

The final step is the visa application, which the nominated employee must complete. The applicant must provide evidence of the required skills for the nominated position and meet health and character requirements. This step confirms the employee’s qualifications, ensuring they are well-suited to contribute to Australia’s workforce.
