Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884) Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following requirements:
- Have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen
- Be old enough to receive the Australian aged pension
- Be in Australia, but not in immigration clearance, when you apply for this visa and when the Department of Home Affairs make its decision
- Not have already applied for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa
- Be sponsored by an eligible sponsor
- Meet the health and character requirements
- Sign the Australian values statement
- Meet the balance-of-family test
- Have paid back any debt owed to the Australian government
- Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused in Australia
- Not have a no further stay condition on the current visa held

Family Sponsorship
Usually, you would be sponsored by an eligible child. If your child is under 18, you can be sponsored by an eligible relative or community organisation. The sponsorship must be approved by the authorities.

You and any family members who apply for the visa with you must meet the health and character requirements. We might also ask that other non-migrating family members meet the requirement.
Australian Values Statement
If you are 18 years of age or older, you must read or have explained to you the Life in Australia book, sign an Australian Values Statement that confirms you will respect the Australian way of life and obey Australian laws.
Balance-of-Family Test
You must meet the balance-of-family test. You meet the balance of the family test if: (1) at least half of your children and stepchildren are eligible children, or (2) there are more eligible children than children living in any other single country.
Best Interests of the Child
Department of Home Affairs will not grant this visa if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.
